Monocel bamboo lyocell fabrics
Monocel fabrics are made from a new and more sustainable lyocell bre.
Our knitted fabrics are made from an extremely rapidly renewable resource and through the most advanced bre production technology available. We aim to replace some of the non-sustainable products dominating today ́s market with our fabrics made from bamboo lyocell. Monocel is the world ́s only supplier of fabrics made from this new bamboo bre.
Our collection of knits is suited for a range of applications, and especially for close-to-body products such as underwear, tops, t-shirts, and tights. Bamboo lyocell is stronger than cotton in both wet and dry condition, providing for durable products.
Monocel is an eco-friendly and socially responsible enterprise. We have established a value chain of selected suppliers who have demonstrated a high professional level, as well as adherence to standards for environmentally friendly production and responsible labour conditions.
Eco-friendly bre production
The lyocell production process is a closed loop process, where hazardous chemicals are replaced by an organic solution. This solution is recycled and reused, along with the water involved in the process. Thus, there are no residues of harmful chemicals and water consumption is reduced signi cantly.
Organic forestry
Monocel has signed contracts with all individual bamboo farmers that there shall be no use of pesticides, insecticides or chemical fertilizers.
The organic forestry is veri ed by Intertek, Shanghai.
Rated as a sustainable material
MADE-BY is a European not-for-pro t organisation, acting to improve environmental and social conditions within the fashion industry. The benchmark rates materials on
a range of parameters, from processing of raw materials through the bre stage.
Monocel is classi ed in category B,
which is the highest possible ranking for man-made bres.

While being made from the same raw material, there are considerable differences between bamboo viscose and
bamboo lyocell. The production of viscose bres is chemical intensive, there is no reuse of chemicals or water, and the resulting bres are shorter and weaker than lyocell bres.
Longer and stronger bres prevent pilling and fuzzy surface of the fabrics, make them more durable and keep them looking good for longer.
We are saving water
A comparative study shows that it takes 31 times more water to produce one kilo of cotton yarn, than for one kilo of Monocel yarn.
Why we love bamboo
The bamboo used for Monocel grows wild in the middle of China, in the Sichuan province.
The area is characterised by endless bamboo covered mountains, waterfalls, fresh air and clear skies. Asia ́s bamboo forests has similar functions as the South American rainforest.
Bamboo is a giant grass. As it grows incredibly fast (up to one metre a day), it is a rapidly renewable
resource. When you cut it, it grows back up again from the same root. The bamboo type used for Monocel is cut by hand when it is four to six years old. This speci c type can grow 20-25 metres tall and has a
particularly high bre content, making it a very good resource for textile bres. It grows wild on hilltops in its natural habitat and does not repress food production. Our selected bamboo has soil improving roots and se- questrates more CO2 than an equivalent cluster of trees. It demands no other watering than natural rainfall. There is no use of machinery in the forest and the bamboo poles are carried manually to collecting points.
