Urban Mariner Shorts

Urban Mariner Shorts

A tried and true pattern is the root of comfort with the new Urban Mariner Shorts.
The ergonomic angled side seams and generous cut allow for greater ease of motion and mobility.
Side cargo pocket zippers are angled for easy one-handed access and over-sized zipper teeth allow for smooth open and close action.

Wide, evenly spaced belt loops with an elastic waistband provide exceptional comfort when bending and active. The front two belt loops are reinforced with with additional stitching (Bar tacks) to withstand belt abuse. This solid construction technique is also used to reinforce the side hand pockets that are sleekly tucked into the angled side seams.

Additional features that make the Urban Mariner Shorts stand out from the competition include a rear seam that is double stitched with Gore-tex thread to guarantee against blow outs and resist chafe, as well as a 5th pocket that is designed to hold an iPhone 7plus (or a wallet) and is high enough up to prevent one from sitting on what is in it. This pocket also has over-sized zipper teeth for ease of motion.

The UV fabric is a cutting edge stretch nylon that is both soft to the touch and abrasion resistant, as well as being light weight and quick to dry. The pocket material is also very light weight and quick drying.

The Urban Mariner Shorts are available in Battleship Grey and a Light Green Khaki in sizes XS-XXL.

These are truly the most comfortable and versatile shorts you will ever wear.

They have been tested and praised by racing sailors and boaters around the world and are even better in this latest generation.

Polo Shirts

The polo shirt is an iconic design and has been a go to, especially for men, for more than a generation. A classy travel shirt.

There are several natural performance options in the Graphic Comfort collection.

The Sailfly Cocona Polo is unique because its performance characteristics come from Carbon Charcoal derived from recycled Coconut shells that were discarded in the food service industry. These Coconut Carbon molecules trap sweat and odors, as well as providing natural UV protection. The key is that there are so many of them they are like an army of odor fighters. These shirts are very well made, so sending them through hundreds of wash and dry cycles is not only ok, but the dry cycle reinvigorates the Coconut Carbon molecules and opens them up so they perform there sweat and odor eating job even better than when they were new.

The Bamboo Polo shirts from both AKWA and Jerico are great choices that offer a somewhat slimmer fit than the Sailfly Cocona Polo. These shirts also have companion cuts for the ladies and provide a wide variety of color options.

T-Shirts

The Graphic Comfort T-Shirt collection is deep with color, fit, and fabric options for both men and women.

We can also print your favorite picture on any of our shirts, or pick a picture shirt from our gallery!

Women will appreciate the Alo Bamboo Racerback Tank Top, the Royal Apparel Raw Edge Bamboo Tank Top, or the Jerico Racer Back Bamboo Tank Top for ease of motion during and intense workout, possibly at the beach!

For a more casual pick, the Jerico Bamboo Stretch Crew, Royal Apparel Hemp Organic V-Neck, or Dash Hemp Santini Court T-Shirt all offer a soft hand and smooth touch to the skin, as well as offering the natural performance and eco benefits of bamboo and hemp fabric.

Guys will like the AKWA Bamboo T-Shirt, Bamboo Crew Neck T-Shirt, Jerico Stretch Slim Fit Bamboo T-Shirt, and for a slightly heavier more durable fabric, the Dash Hemp Rocky's T-Shirt.

The AKWA Bamboo shirts utilize a unique fabric combination that blends Bamboo Charcoal with a wickaway polyester for a lighter feel and more rapid moisture wicking. The Bamboo Charcoal eats up any odor associated with the polyester.

For ultra light weight sun protection, the Sailfly Long Sleeve Mock Turtleneck is a go to shirt for on the water activities.

These shirts feature natural performance fabrics and come in a wide variety of color choices and several fit options

Some Bamboo is Better Than Others...

Monocel bamboo lyocell fabrics

Monocel fabrics are made from a new and more sustainable lyocell bre.
Our knitted fabrics are made from an extremely rapidly renewable resource and through the most advanced bre production technology available. We aim to replace some of the non-sustainable products dominating today ́s market with our fabrics made from bamboo lyocell. Monocel is the world ́s only supplier of fabrics made from this new bamboo bre.

Our collection of knits is suited for a range of applications, and especially for close-to-body products such as underwear, tops, t-shirts, and tights. Bamboo lyocell is stronger than cotton in both wet and dry condition, providing for durable products.

Monocel is an eco-friendly and socially responsible enterprise. We have established a value chain of selected suppliers who have demonstrated a high professional level, as well as adherence to standards for environmentally friendly production and responsible labour conditions.

Eco-friendly bre production

The lyocell production process is a closed loop process, where hazardous chemicals are replaced by an organic solution. This solution is recycled and reused, along with the water involved in the process. Thus, there are no residues of harmful chemicals and water consumption is reduced signi cantly.

Organic forestry

Monocel has signed contracts with all individual bamboo farmers that there shall be no use of pesticides, insecticides or chemical fertilizers.
The organic forestry is veri ed by Intertek, Shanghai.

Rated as a sustainable material

MADE-BY is a European not-for-pro t organisation, acting to improve environmental and social conditions within the fashion industry. The benchmark rates materials on
a range of parameters, from processing of raw materials through the bre stage.
Monocel is classi ed in category B,
which is the highest possible ranking for man-made bres.

Why another bamboo product?

YES NO

Irrigation
Repress food production Pesticides
Insectisides
Fertilizers

While being made from the same raw material, there are considerable differences between bamboo viscose and
bamboo lyocell. The production of viscose bres is chemical intensive, there is no reuse of chemicals or water, and the resulting bres are shorter and weaker than lyocell bres.

Longer and stronger bres prevent pilling and fuzzy surface of the fabrics, make them more durable and keep them looking good for longer.

We are saving water

A comparative study shows that it takes 31 times more water to produce one kilo of cotton yarn, than for one kilo of Monocel yarn.

Why we love bamboo

The bamboo used for Monocel grows wild in the middle of China, in the Sichuan province.
The area is characterised by endless bamboo covered mountains, waterfalls, fresh air and clear skies. Asia ́s bamboo forests has similar functions as the South American rainforest.

Bamboo is a giant grass. As it grows incredibly fast (up to one metre a day), it is a rapidly renewable
resource. When you cut it, it grows back up again from the same root. The bamboo type used for Monocel is cut by hand when it is four to six years old. This speci c type can grow 20-25 metres tall and has a
particularly high bre content, making it a very good resource for textile bres. It grows wild on hilltops in its natural habitat and does not repress food production. Our selected bamboo has soil improving roots and se- questrates more CO2 than an equivalent cluster of trees. It demands no other watering than natural rainfall. There is no use of machinery in the forest and the bamboo poles are carried manually to collecting points.

More Bamboo Facts

More Bamboo Facts

Bamboo the plant and also bamboo the fabric can rate high as an environmentally friendly and renewable resource:

Bamboo grows rapidly and naturally without any pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers.

Bamboo clothing (both mechanically and chemically manufactured) is 100% biodegradable and can be completely decomposed in the soil by micro-organisms and sunlight without decomposing into any pollutants such as methane gas which is commonly produced as a by-product of decomposition in landfills and dumps.

Growing bamboo improves soil quality and helps rebuild eroded soil. The extensive root system of bamboo holds soil together, prevents soil erosion, and retains water in the watershed.

Bamboo grows naturally without the need for agricultural tending and large diesel exhaust-spewing tractors to plant seeds and cultivate the soil.

Bamboo plantations are large factories for photosynthesis which reduces greenhouse gases. Bamboo plants absorb about 5 times the amount of carbon dioxide (a primary greenhouse gas) and produces about 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees.

Bamboo fabrics and clothing can be manufactured and produced without any chemical additives although eco-certification such as Oeko-Tex is necessary to insure that the manufacturing and finishing processes are healthy.

Currently, there are no known genetically modified organisms (GMO) variants of bamboo. Let’s hope it stays that way.

Graphic Comfort - Why Bamboo?

Graphic Comfort - Why Bamboo?

Graphic Comfort offers a variety of Bamboo clothing and will continue to grow those offerings. Besides the the quickly apparent comfort advantages over cotton, the following explains the eco-benefits of bamboo.

The Fabric

Bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal supposedly because of a bacteriostatis agent unique to bamboo plants called “bamboo kun” which also helps bamboo resist harboring odors. “Kun” is also sometimes spelled “kunh”. The bamboo kun in bamboo fabric stops odor-producing bacteria from growing and spreading in the bamboo cloth allowing bamboo clothing to be more hygienic and to remain fresher smelling.

Bamboo clothing is hypoallergenic.

Bamboo is highly absorbent and wicks water away from the body 3 to 4 times faster than cotton. In warm, humid and sweaty weather, bamboo clothing helps keep the wearer drier, cooler and more comfortable and doesn’t stick to the skin.

The structure of bamboo fibers make bamboo fabrics more breathable and thermal regulating than cotton, hemp, wool or synthetic fabrics.

Bamboo clothing is naturally more wrinkle-resistant than cotton, and while it might still require ironing after washing, bamboo fabric can be ironed at a lower temperature than cotton. Shrinkage during washing and drying is minimal at warm temperatures.

Shirts That Print Well

Shirts That Print Well

At Graphic Comfort, we are making it possible to wear your favorite images on a variety of garments that fit right into your comfort zone. While there are many companies and websites that allow you to design your own "shirt", they restrict your choice to whatever they have in their inventory. Most do not offer organic choices or hemp or bamboo shirts. They may have the "shirt factory" thing down, but we are trying a different approach with a wider variety of garments with which to pair your favorite image - one of ours, or one you send us.

Once you decide which image you want, you can make it easy and order the standard, default Fruit of the Loom ringspun cotton shirt that offers a smooth surface for optimal printing at an economical price. If you decide you want to go deeper into your comfort zone, check out the Royal Apparel Bamboo Shirts USA or Hemp T-shirts for men and women. Because we think you will be back, you may want to switch it up on your next order with a Dash Hemp shirt, or the ladies might want to try a feminine fit long sleeve or short sleeve Soft Bamboo shirt from Alo Sport. Also worth checking out, is the Hempest Organic Hemp T-shirt in long sleeve and short sleeve. We are the spot for performance hemp clothing.

While white is usually an ideal background color to print on, certain images work well on other colors as well. If you have a question about which shirt or color will work best, you can Live Chat with us or send an email. We will promptly respond to your question and expedite your order.

Bamboo Graphic T-Shirts!

What Fabric is Best For Me?

The myriad of fabrics available in today's garments makes navigating to the right choice of your given application seem pretty confusing. Having had 15 years of experience picking fabrics for performance clothing, I have come to embrace the qualities of modern fabrics, while still appreciating the properties of age old fibers that have been reworked into today's modern designs.

When polyester technical fabrics first came out, they were touted as being far superior to cotton. While much of this is true, there were downsides to these man-made fibers. The most notable issue with the first "tech" shirts was the "stink factor" after a good sweat. The second issue with many of these fabrics was the "snag" factor. These shirts would look great out of the bag, but soon after, they would snag on everything but teflon!

So, with coatings like silver nano-particles and other enhancements, the fabric industry has attempted to address the short-comings of modern materials. There are various studies that have examined the safety of long term exposure to these fabric additives, but so far there has been no dire warning.

Technology has also advanced the viability of natural fibers from the Bamboo plant and Hemp plant in clothing that has grown to be seen as a "green" alternative in the performance clothing market.

The weight, composition, and weave of the fabric ultimately determine how effective the garment is at wicking sweat, fighting body odor, and protecting skin from the sun. While Bamboo and Hemp have similar performance characteristics, Bamboo comes out on top for it's silky smooth feel and better wicking ability.

Hemp is a great material, and extremely durable, however, it is often combined with a high percentage of cotton in order to achieve a softer feel, at the expense of the performance characteristics of pure Hemp. Combining hemp with cotton is also cost effective, as hemp cannot be legally grown in many countries and has a much higher raw material cost. Consequently, 100% Hemp garments are significantly more expensive. Our brands, Dash Hemp and Jung Maven, offer 100% Hemp clothing for those who are willing to spend more for a long lasting garment with the true performance characteristics of all Hemp.

Bamboo is really a much more luxurious feel and although more expensive than cotton, is truly the natural performance fiber. The natural properties of Bamboo include UV protection, moisture wicking, and it does not smell after sweat has dried on the fabric.

I have been mountain biking in the Mariner Clothing prototype Bamboo short sleeve shirts and have been amazed that after a good sweaty workout there is no body odor smell. The cost factor is also a factor of how much cotton is combined with Bamboo in the final garment. While both Alo and Royal Apparel offer high quality Bamboo garments, we are in the process of getting the exclusive rights to a new brand of bamboo shirts from Mariner Clothing. These shirts are the only ones on the market to be made of a fabric that is 95% bamboo, 5% Spandex - allowing for more comfortable mobility and range of movement, as well as the full performance of Bamboo without cotton additive. Once you start wearing Bamboo shirts, it seems regressive to feel cotton next to your skin again.

Stay tuned for the new Mariner Bamboo shirts after the New Year!

In conclusion, the best shirt choice depends on what your activity will be. If you will have a lot of breeze passing over your shirt continually during your activity, then various polyester fabrics may be appropriate. These fabrics do not absorb moisture, but they do transmit it from your skin out to the surface of the fabric. If there is air moving over the surface of your shirt sufficient to evaporate this moisture, these kinds of fabric can be effective performance choices. However, if you are indoors, or in an area where air is more stagnant, the natural fibers, Hemp or Bamboo, are superior choices because not only do they wick moisture away from your skin, but they also absorb some of it, so your skin will stay drier. One problem with polyester fabric (which includes DryFit, Capilene, and other widely marketed brands) is that the moisture will stay on your skin if there is no way for it to be evaporated on the surface.

Hopefully, this has been helpful. Please feel free to contact us with any questions about the right choice for you.
